So this time I completely skipped MSi's website or anything to do with them and went directly to AMD's website and searched for drivers for the Radeon HD and it basically steered me through a set of drop down menus to find my card and came up with the Catalyst Control suite with drivers for me to download which I did FIRST.

After that I installed the software and then powered down the system, THEN installed the card, connected everything, powered back up. This is the the best order as this time once the software downloaded and installed it took less than 5-minutes to get back up and running. Much better and definitely less frustrating.

I will also add that this system is now on Windows 10 which has been good to me and the other was on Windows 8. So the steps I followed to install it were as follows and simply because the included disc and instructions were useless, 1-star off! So here is how I did it the second time: 1.

Go to AMD's website and do the usual search for drivers, etc and go through the steps to get the right ones. Take the disc that comes with it and put it away or discard it as for me it was a source of frustration. Download then install. I did not install their "Gaming Evolved" part, so I chose "custom" install and unchecked it. Simply did not need or want it. Once it is installed it requires a system reboot Shut down the system, disconnect power, and now install the new graphics card.

Reconnect everything and power system back on. Wait for system to load. On the first boot both monitors were the same output which is fine. Once logged into windows, it updated a driver based on hardware installed, and then the monitors became a left and a right without adjusting any settings.

I did check the settings and overall everything was good to go. Total time from download on slow DSL to back up and running was less than minutes which beat my first go around by a mile. Everything according to the description I am satisfied. This was quite a bit more difficult to install than I expected, although a lot of that can probably be attributed to the fact that I'm not a techie and that it's possible I haven't installed any cards other than memory on a computer since Windows I had an open slot but couldn't get the card to snap in properly--I eventually figured out what I was doing wrong, got the card in and hooked up the HDMI cord to my monitor thinking that since it was plug and play I would get a picture but there was nothing.

I then hooked up the VGA from the new card to my monitor but that didn't work either, making me think that maybe I damaged the card when figuring out how to get it into the slot or that it wasn't compatible with my computer. I knew the card had power because the fan was running but I couldn't get any picture from it. I hooked the old video card which I left in the computer to my monitor via VGA and installed the drivers for the new one from the enclosed CD-Rom.

After that the new card worked but it was giving me a picture at a weird aspect ratio that didn't fill up the screen I would suggest writing down the screen resolution you are currently using just in case something weird happens. I found that if I right clicked on my computer screen and chose resolution from there it was offering me different values than if I chose the resolution from the AMD icon on the system tray and that the max value from the AMD icon gave me back the resolution I was used to.

The drivers that come with the video card on CD-Rom are dated and while they do work it's worth the trouble to go to the AMD site and get the latest driver which is called Catalyst Omega and offers improved performance. I say go to the trouble because you can't just click check for new driver in the AMD Catalyst menu and download it--you either need to figure out which driver is compatible yourself or download a tool from ADM that detects your set-up and chooses the best driver.

The one irritant is that the card only allows two channel sound through HDMI, even with the updated drivers--from what I can gather by reading tech posts on the internet the only way to get around that is to download the correct HDMI audio driver separately from the internet, but even that seems to only work on some computers. So far I'm happy with how the card is performing--I wasn't able to watch videos in HD from sites like Amazon and Vudu because of copy-protection that prevents HD videos from being viewed with VGA cards but videos play in HD now and look fantastic.
